Description: Four hours after bringing our newborn, Camdyn, home, everything went wrong. Judith had just been discharged from U of M after giving birth, and we thought the hardest part was over. That same night, she started violently throwing up large amounts of blood. I called 911 immediately. EMS rushed her to Tawas, but critical time was lost before she could be transported back to U of M. She almost died in that ambulance. When she arrived, doctors rushed her into life support, blood transfusions, and emergency procedures. She was near death. After days of fighting, they finally performed a liver bypass that stopped the bleeding—but the damage is serious. Because of her liver disease, ammonia levels affected her brain, which could cause lasting effects.

Judith is finally home, but she is not out of the woods. There will be ongoing care, constant monitoring, and frequent travel back to U of M—hours away. On top of that, the medical bills, co-pays, and lost wages have put our family in a financial hole we weren’t prepared for. Judith is the one who always helps others—never asks for anything. And I’ve always said I’d never do this… but right now, we have no choice.
