Hi, name is Jude! I am engaged to my wonderful fiance, Murph. I am trans and he is intersex. We fled our home state of Mississippi--the place I grew up, the place we lived together for nearly a decade, not because we wanted to but because we were increasingly worried for our long term safety living in the Deep South.
We were evacuated from the state with the help of a professional evacuation team for queer people experiencing immediate persecution and abuse. The group was undergoing extreme changes at the time and one of its lead members was deathly ill. In short, the evacuation went rough, at times becoming more risky than anyone would've wanted, and the resettlement was worse. We are not stabilizing well at all.
In addition to the general difficulties of resettling with less help than expected, we are urgently trying to correct Murph's legal documents in relation to his name and gender marker. His current marker doesn't match the traditionally male puberty he went through as a child. We need to change this, because of the frequent discrimination he faces. As of right now, showing his ID automatically outs him. This jeopardizes his safety.
We both also need specialized healthcare. I have lupus, which has been more or less unmanaged for years because I haven't been able to afford care. He needs care relating to his intersex condition, and he has been trying to see a neurologist and rheumatologist for years. He has absence seizures and severe autoimmmune symptoms almost daily and his referrals kept being denied outright in the South, despite multiple doctors confirming the seizures, and suggesting he may decline without further specialized care. He has in fact declined, to the point that I am deeply concerned for his health. He openly wonders if he will keep declining till it all just ends him.
We have the proper forms filled out for his name and marker change, and we just need to pay the fee for that. We have appointments booked to get family doctors and referrals. I am approved for medicaid. Its not a bad start.
But right now we have no transportation, and every appointment is another cost that we cannot afford. Right now, we cant even afford the basic medications we do have access to to manage our conditions. Murph is supposed to be regularly drinking supplemental nutritional drinks due to his low weight and poor health, but we can't afford those. This is dire.
Murph is unable to work a profitable job. Due to his aforementioned health issues, and worsening mental health, I have been acting as his caretaker for an extended period of time. We are working on making that legally documented so that I can be paid for that caretaking, which would further stabilize us.
This goal will cover the following for a couple of months while we get our footing:
Appointment costs
Transportation costs
Bills (Rent: $425/mo, $900/mo fuel for heat)
Medication costs
Legal fees
Funds for basics -- We are extremely ill equipped for the cold northern weather. We have been given some things, but we still are very far from having all we need to be comfortably clothes through spring.
