Help Judah Frederick in her Fight against Cancer
My name is Shawnna Herbert. My good friend Abby and her husband Justin just recently found out their precious two year old baby girl Judah has been diagnosed with cancer. I’m looking to help raise money to ease the burden off their shoulders as they tackle their next chapter in their lives. Below is a message from Abby posted as an announcement. I will update the page whenever we hear of news.
“Justin and I have news that many have heard but some haven't. We don't want to draw attention to ourselves but the questions keep coming and to make it easier we are posting here. Time is limited now. The outpouring of support and care we as a family have experienced is amazing. To know you love and care for us is the greatest feeling ever. As we travel this journey we have support backing us so we can support Judah in her fight.
For a whole month Judah had symptoms similar to a GI bug. She had been to several doctors, urgent care, Albany med ER, admitted, released and admitted again. Our girl wasn't drinking for two weeks after the first admittance. We had to hold her down to drink. It sounds mean but we were told its a bug and she needed to stay hydrated so she didn't have to come back to the ER. She napped continuously. Then this past Thursday we saw something haunting. Her eyes started to lose focus and go a bit cross eyed. We decided to wait as we were thinking ok gi bug maybe shes having eye issues unrelated. Saturday morning judah had once again vomited. Her vomiting was intermittent since being discharged the first time from the hospital.
I'm at the ER alone with Judah. The eye docs come in, iv is put in, and ct scan was next. The doc came in to tell me the news that no one ever wants to hear. "Judah has a large cyst (full of fluid) and underneath they found a mass."
So began our transition into the PICU. They told us in order to perform the MRI she would need to be intubated (on a ventilator.) Due to the amount of fluid in Judahs brain they needed to put two drains into her brain and they have been there since. She has two lines into her thighs for blood draws, med administering, and IV fluids. She has another IV in arm. Shes covered in tubes.
Anyway, the next day they need to go in, drain the cyst, create drainage between the two ventricles, and take a biopsy of tumor.
We just recieved the news that it is in fact cancer. The word that everyone fears. We need to wait for genetics to tell us what level (grade) her cancer is. We are praying and would love if you could join us in praying for it to be a level 1/2. It will mean less harsh treatments and a better outcome for Judah.
We are broken but God has been here. We've felt him. They've told me they found something in her lungs they didn't know if it was pneumonia or a spot. So began another waiting game to find out. The next x-ray showed it was gone. Part of her lung collapsed and came back to. They came again to say that on her MRI they found something at the bottom of her spine. They don't know if its a spot or fluid from surgery. Wait again. It's just fluid.
This has been all rush, wait, rush, wait. I've officially witnessed extubation. I've witnessed more in my life than I ever thought I would. I know God has his hand on her. I have told her that He is there. He is with her. We will get through the fight. In these times you find yourself questioning why it couldn't have been you. I've always said to God if someone has to get it, let it be me. It's not his fault. Sin is the reason for all of the evil in the world. God loved us so much he gave us the free will to choose. I've seen many miracles in my life to doubt God. I've felt his presence many times to ever doubt Him. He has given us strength we didn't know we had. This will be a long road of appointments, tests, scans, treatment and of course every MRI will need to be frequent and includes intubation. They need her completely still. Don't worry im over here making sure these things are necessary and make sure we know the reason and science behind everything we see and will see. I have begun a fight with Judah and we will win.
On the way to the hospital the word trust came to me and every song on the radio after was all about just that. The next word that came to me was Hope when the doc first came to tell me the news. Then a good friend sent me a picture of a rainbow from that night too. A sign of hope and promise. Then it's been praise. What does Judahs name mean? Praise. Her name has sparked many conversations about why her name is Judah. She has planted the seed for many who we don't know if they've heard of Jesus. Just in the name. Jesus was derived from the tribe of Judah if you didn't know. One of her nurses talked to us all about his testimony and how he started a church with his brother in Schenectady. All of these signs let us know God is here. In the waiting God is here.
No matter what you face in life, draw near to Him. He will fill you with the strength you didn't know you had. He will comfort you. Come what may, eternity will be better than anything on this earth. There will be no pain, no sorrow, no media ;) etc.. ”
