Juan was picked up by ICE, is in a detention center and we are fighting to get him out.

Any donations given will go toward legal fees to get him out on bond and toward continuing his immigration proceedings so he is able to remain in the US. The fact that his U VISA application was submitted will help his case though the legal fees and bond payments, if he is granted one, are incredibly high. Any donation helps.

Juan is a young Cuban man who came to the US 3 years ago. (I am not using his full name or sharing his picture due to the climate re: immigration at this time). Juan declared himself at the border and was prepared to be here for a year and then have a road towards obtaining a green card, which had been the policy since 1966.

Unfortunately, the Biden administration ended this policy 6 months into his time in the States. He has a court date within a year where he could receive a deportation order. He has a lawyer who has worked to find a legal a way for Juan to stay in the US. He identified a U visa for immigrants who have been victims of a crime. Within his first year here, Juan, while on his moped, was held at gunpoint, physically attacked, and his moped was stolen, so he qualifies for this U visa.

To proceed with the U visa, Juan needs $5000 to pay his attorney. This U visa application needs to be filed within the next 3 months. Juan is a kind, hard-working, talented young man, who came to the US with no family to support him. He has become like family to us.
