Juana Hernandez is a single mother of three boys living in poverty in Mexico. My mom is the godmother of one of her children, and our families have always been close. Juana’s two oldest sons, ages 23 and 22, both have Down syndrome and require constant care. Despite her difficult circumstances, Juana works tirelessly every day to provide for her children, making sure they have food and a roof over their heads. With no one else to help, she often has to leave her sons alone or in the care of her youngest, who is only 17 years old.

Recently, Juana learned she needs emergency surgery to reconstruct her abdomen and remove part of her intestine. This urgent need is the result of complications from c-sections that were not performed correctly when she gave birth to her children, leaving her with a painful cyst in her abdomen. Without family support and with her health declining, Juana is facing an overwhelming challenge. The cost of the surgery is far beyond what she can afford, and every day she waits puts her and her family at greater risk.

The funds raised will go directly toward Juana’s surgery expenses. If there is any money left over, it will help her cover living expenses while she recovers and continues to care for her sons.
