UPDATE: 

We are heartbroken to share that Juan Manuel passed away yesterday morning (4/10/2026).  

We are incredibly grateful for the support, prayers, and generosity that have been shown to our family during this time. Juan Manuel fought very hard, and we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering and is now resting in the arms of our Lord. 

As we navigate this loss, we are now facing funeral expenses and ongoing financial challenges, as my aunt and their children adjust to life without him. 

We will be updating this fundraiser to help support the family during this difficult time. Any continued support, whether through donations or sharing, means more than we can express.

My name is Azalie, and I’m creating this fundraiser for my uncle, Juan Manuel, who lives in Quito, Ecuador with my aunt, Sandra, and their children.

Juan Manuel is a university professor who was living independently and working full-time until a sudden medical emergency changed everything.

A short time ago, he underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor (meningioma). Just two days later, he suffered a stroke, followed by three additional surgeries and a deep coma that doctors feared he might not wake from. By God’s grace, he survived and woke up.

He is now back home with his family, but his recovery has only just begun.

Juan Manuel must relearn how to breathe, move, eat, and function again. His care requires daily respiratory and physical therapy, medical supplies, special nutrition, and ongoing medical support. He cannot work, and my aunt has had to stop working to care for him full-time, leaving the family with greatly reduced income and rising medical costs.

Special nutrition & vitamins – $1,222

Ambulance transportation – $160

Total: approximately $2,600 per month

Doctors expect his recovery to take 6–12 months or longer. We set a goal of $35,000 to cover one year of medical care and help keep his family stable during this time.

Because GoFundMe is not fully supported in Ecuador, I will receive the funds and transfer them directly to Juan Manuel’s family to pay for his care.

Con profunda tristeza, queremos compartir que Juan Manuel falleció ayer en la mañana (10/4/2026). 

Estamos profundamente agradecidos por todo el apoyo, las oraciones y la generosidad que han tenido con nuestra familia durante este tiempo. Juan Manuel luchó muy fuerte, y nos consuela saber que ya no está sufriendo y que ahora descansa en los brazos de nuestro Señor.  

Mientras atravesamos esta pérdida, ahora enfrentamos los gastos funerarios y desafíos financieros, mientras mi tía y sus hijos se adaptan a la vida sin él. 

Estaremos actualizando esta recaudación para seguir apoyando a la familia en este momento tan difícil. Cualquier apoyo, ya sea donando o compartiendo, significa más de lo que podemos expresar.

Hace poco tiempo, se sometió a una cirugía para extirpar un tumor cerebral (meningioma). Solo dos días después, sufrió un derrame cerebral, seguido de tres cirugías adicionales y un coma profundo del cual los médicos temían que no despertara. Por la gracia de Dios, sobrevivió y despertó.

Ahora está de regreso en casa con su familia, pero su proceso de recuperación apenas comienza.

Juan Manuel debe volver a aprender a respirar, moverse, comer y funcionar. Su cuidado requiere terapia respiratoria y física diaria, suministros médicos, nutrición especial y atención médica continua. Él no puede trabajar, y mi tía tuvo que dejar su trabajo para cuidarlo a tiempo completo, lo que ha reducido significativamente los ingresos del hogar mientras los gastos médicos siguen aumentando.
