Hello, my name is Yerim and I am fundraising for my best friend Joyce and her family who have gone through an extremely rough couple of years.

In 2020, Joyce lost her older brother on October 8th due to a drug overdose. Joyce's mom had been struggling with alcoholism for the past 7 years which worsened following her son's death. She lived alone in Oregon and didn't have anyone close by to take care of her or monitor her drinking.

In April of 2021, Joyce's mom was laid off and no longer had a source of income or means to support herself and became homeless the following month. Joyce was unable to contact her mom for two weeks before finding out her mom had become homeless. Joyce and her dad, who both live in California, did what they could to bring Joyce's mom closer to them. A month later, Joyce and her dad were able to bring her mom to California and immediately took her to the emergency due to the state of her body. She was extremely jaundiced and weak.

Joyce's mom was hospitalized for around 2 weeks before being discharged because her out-of-state health insurance couldn't cover the rest of her medical bills although she clearly needed to stay hospitalized. She stayed at home for around 2 days until we called the ambulance for her since her swollen legs were hurting her. They took her to a different hospital where she stayed for a month. During that month, she became more lethargic, unable to move or talk properly, and there was just no sign of improvement. So, they decided to put her in comfort care and we lost her on July 21, 2021. During the whole time, she was hospitalized Joyce was by her side, spending all her nights there, trying to take care of her as much as she thought she could.

Right now, Joyce and her dad are doing what they can to get back on their feet, however, with the pandemic and other factors, this has been extremely hard for them. Joyce's dad's main sources of income all depend on having a car. He had worked for Instacart but his account got hacked and someone stole $1,000 from him and the account was suspended. He also got into a car accident that totaled his car while on a Lyft run which resulted in Lyft and uber terminating his account despite the accident being the other driver's fault. So, he has only been using Grubhub at the moment. He is in need of a new car in order to support himself and his daughter, but they don't have the expenses for that at the moment.

It would be greatly appreciated if we could get some money to help Joyce and her family out and ease the stress so that they may grieve the loss of their loved ones and take care of themselves the best that they can. Thank you so much.
