I am making this for my best friend Joyce and to me, Joyce is more than a friend—she is the big sister I never had and honestly really needed. To know Joyce is to love Joyce and I have had the privilege of knowing her for over 12 years. Throughout that time she and her husband, Nikki, have been the definition of hard work, kindness, and devotion to their friends and family and I have always admired and looked up to them. Together for nearly 20 years, they have built a beautiful life and are raising two incredible children, Jaxon(13) and Niksyn(7). This family has my heart. All four of them.
Unfortunately a few years ago, everything changed.
In 2022 Joyce began her struggles with kidney stones. Joyce became septic after her first stent placement in 2023 and had to be hospitalized to get the infection under control and within 24 hours of being discharged she had a stroke-like episode that left her unable to fully feel and use her left arm and leg. After that, she had to have 3 more stent placements for recurring kidney stones along with other various hospital visits due to having a depleted immune system from the multiple rounds of antibiotics and surgeries over the years. Joyce has spent years fighting through one medical challenge after another and her body is tired. Adding to the struggle, she continues to live with chronic pain from a serious car accident that left her with multiple fractures in her back in 2021.
Her health has declined to the point that she can no longer walk or work. Countless hospital visits, specialist appointments, and medical treatments have placed an enormous emotional, physical, and financial burden on the family. What was once a two-income household is now supported primarily by Nikki, who works tirelessly—often taking on extra handyman jobs after work just to help make ends meet.
Despite every obstacle, they have never given up.
After years of searching for answers, Joyce is finally being treated at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. For the first time in a long time, there is hope. The specialists there are helping uncover answers and exploring options that WILL help Joyce regain her mobility and improve her quality of life.
But hope comes with a cost...she has several surgeries coming up that require travel expenses, hotel stays, medical appointments, treatments, while everyday bills continue to add up, creating a financial strain that no family should have to face alone. Her parents and husband and friends and family are doing all they can but it's finally time to ask the community for help and support. If you know Joyce, then you know she has always been there for the people she loves whether you needed a hot meal or a place to lay your head and now it's our turn to be there for her if we can.
If you feel led to help, any donation—no matter how small—would mean more than words can express. Every dollar helps ease the financial burden and every prayer brings Joyce one step closer to healing and being able to walk again!
Most of all, we want to see Joyce do the things many of us take for granted: walk beside her family, play with her children, and enjoy life without constant struggle.
Thank you for your prayers, your generosity, and your support. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us fight for our Joyce.
