Help Me Overcome Unexpected Rental Debt & Secure My Future

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out for support during a really difficult time. I recently found out that I owe $13,000 to my previous apartment complex due to unpaid rent and fees. All of this is due no later than July 9, 2025. This debt was left behind by my ex-partner, the father of my child, who moved out unexpectedly with only two months left on our lease. What makes this even harder is that I was unaware that we were already behind on rent for three months before he left.

As a single mom to a one-year-old, I am doing my best to stay afloat financially while providing for my child. On top of that, I am a full-time teacher and a full-time student, which means I have no extra time to take on additional work to come up with this money on my own. This unexpected debt has been overwhelming, and while both of our names are on this debt, I am the only one choosing to take responsibility for it to prevent it from impacting my rental history and credit score—both of which are crucial for securing stable housing in the future.
