2020 has not been a very kind year to any of us. This year hit my Mom just a little bit harder. At the beginning of summer 2020 my Mom found a lump, and after many scary doctor's visits, found out she had breast cancer at only 45. As you can imagine, our entire family was devastated, and even more so, scared at what this meant. Shortly after the diagnosis, my Mom underwent a double mastectomy, that consisted of an 8 hour surgery and a few nights in the hospital, along with months of recovery. Soon after that, she began chemotherapy which she will continue for 6 months at which point she will then undergo radiation followed by years of hormonal therapies.
This diagnosis also happened to come right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as of November, my Mom tested positive for the virus. With the medical bills piling up, the inability to work for months due to chemo and the pandemic, and now she is sick and isolated from her kids and the rest of her family over the holidays.
My mom, Joyce, is the strongest person I know and I have full faith in her that she can pull through both COVID and beat breast cancer. We are beyond thankful for the treatment my Mom has received, and for catching the cancer in the earlier stages. However, her diagnosis brings along a hard journey physically, mentally, and financially. Without being able to work, the bills are only growing.
We acknowledge that everyone is having financial struggles during this time, so we only ask you to donate if you are financially able. Whether you are able to donate or not, we appreciate your prayers and support, and ask you to share my Mom's story.
Thank you very much.
