Help Joy Refile Her Visa and Keep Art Alive

Donation protected
Joy is a passionate performer and storyteller from Manila, Philippines who has made a profound impact on every community she’s been part of. On behalf of Joy, her friends are reaching out to ask for your help. Despite her dedication, incredible work, extensive portfolio, and glowing recommendations, Joy’s initial visa application was denied—even after she saved $8,000 to cover the costs. Now, she faces new legal fees and a rapidly approaching deadline to refile her visa.

We, her friends, and other legal professionals she has consulted with, believe that the officer reviewing her case didn’t fully recognize the significance of her contributions and achievements. But we’re confident that with this next filing, Joy will be granted the visa she deserves, allowing her to continue pursuing her dreams in the U.S. We’re raising funds to help her cover these unexpected legal expenses and keep her dream alive.

Joy’s journey in the U.S. has been nothing short of remarkable. A recent graduate with a BFA in Acting from Brigham Young University (BYU), she has already distinguished herself in both theater and film. Her standout roles in productions like MESTIZA or MIXED and Every Brilliant Thing have showcased her talent and commitment to telling stories that matter. Her work has even been recognized at prestigious events like the AMPAS qualifying Palm Springs International ShortFest. She has also been working on numerous independent films and TV shows around Chicago ever since moving to the Windy City shortly after she graduated in 2023.

But Joy is more than just an accomplished actress—she’s a true believer in the power of art to bring people together and create lasting change. This belief has driven her involvement beyond the stage and screen. At BYU, she served as the Filipino Club President, where she played a key role in fostering community and cultural understanding. She also actively participated in interfaith panels, helping to bridge divides and promote dialogue. Additionally, Joy has worked professionally in social media and marketing for reputable institutions like BYU and the University of Chicago, using her skills to support and uplift the arts.

This is a critical moment for Joy, and we’re asking for your support to ensure she can continue her journey. Art has the power to transform lives, and Joy’s work is a testament to that. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings Joy one step closer to securing her future in the U.S., where she can continue to inspire and connect people through her storytelling.

Joy has been an important person in our lives—we are first-hand witnesses to her remarkable talent. Her kindness, support, and unwavering belief in the power of art have touched us all. We don't only want to help her keep creating because we sincerely believe what she creates is meaningful, but also because we believe that the life she has built here should not just be ripped away from her. Your help will make a lasting difference in her life and in the lives of those she touches with hers.

These funds will cover her attorney fees ($3,000), filing fees (3,635.00), and other submission-related expenses ($200).
