My sister Jovie has faced extraordinary challenges since birth. Born prematurely with severe lung complications, she spent much of her childhood in and out of hospitals. At just 16 years old, Jovie underwent a bilateral lung transplant—a procedure that gave her a new lease on life and allowed her to experience moments of hope and normalcy. For nearly a decade, she has fought bravely to maintain her health, but over the past year, her immune system has begun to reject her transplanted lungs. Now, with only 30% lung function, Jovie is once again spending countless days in the hospital, trying new therapies in hopes of slowing the rejection process.
