Providing school supplies for Jamaican students
Donation protected
Hi my name is Jovaine Smith, I am a rising senior at Howard University and I need your help to help make an impact in my community.
I am from a small community in rural Jamaica where there is an abundance of talented children who cannot achieve their dreams due to having limited access to education. The problem exists because their parents simply cannot afford to provide them the basic materials necessary to get a good education. Even though the government requires that children be educated up to at least Grade 11, the average child is forced to leave school at Grade 9 due to financial hardships. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many parents from within the community have lost their jobs. Some children, as young as 13 years old, will not be able to go back to school in September.
For the past two years, my family and I have been supporting 5 students by paying their school fees as well as providing them with funding for meals and transportation to school. The results have been amazing; two of the students are now in grade 10 and are on track to be the first in their family to graduate high school. We have also hosted a back to school treat every year, providing school supplies to a number of children in the community. The need this year will be far greater and I am aiming to provide at least 10 educational grants as well as school supplies for other students.
No donation is too small:
$1 can provide books and pencils for at least one child.
$10 can provide a school bag and supplies.
$50 will ensure that a child has all their supplies for the entire school year.
$100 can cover fees as well as a transportation and meal stipend.
My goal is to ensure that no child is denied access to proper education because of their financial situation. The success of one child can lead to an improved economic and social outcome for his/her entire family. Together we can make a meaningful difference.
Thank you for your donation, Your contribution will go a long way!
