Danish photographer Klaus Thymann was arrested in Uganda on 29 June 2026 amidst the government’s aggressive crackdown on press freedom.

Klaus was in Uganda to report on the glaciers and community of the Rwenzori Mountains, a place he cares deeply about and has worked for decades to spotlight through reporting and fieldwork.

He was unlawfully detained for 5 days without explanation, amongst other human rights violations. Klaus has now been unconditionally released without charges.

Klaus and his family are grateful to everyone who has worked to ensure his safe release. The support of friends, colleagues, and concerned others has been invaluable.

Klaus' legal team has been working tirelessly on his behalf, but the costs of mounting a strong defense are considerable.

His family humbly asks for your support to help cover the costs of his defense and efforts to secure his release.

Funds raised will be used solely to cover legal fees and related expenses incurred in Klaus' defense and safe return home.
