In September 2023, Josiel was diagnosed with Leukemia. Josiel is a third-grade student but he cannot go back to school after being diagnosed with Leukemia. Mom had to quit her job because she had to take care of her only child. Josiel’s dad is struggling to meet his medical needs. They have been living in a single room in a shared home since they moved here very recently.

They have to travel to the Stanford Hospital which is around 30 miles away from their home every week for three days, for his chemotherapy. Mom is paying someone to ride them back and forth since she doesn’t have a car. They are blessed with a team of doctors who are helping Josiel recover. The treatment is very painful and will take a long time. Josiel can barely sit up straight and walk after the treatment started.
