Help Josie Pay Smudge’s Vet Bills & Continue Rescuing Cats

My name is Josie, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart. Just recently (July 2025), my beloved cat Smudge fell gravely ill. What began in June as frequent vomiting turned into a heartbreaking journey through countless vet visits, special diets, blood work, and even an emergency blood transfusion.

For a short while, the transfusion gave us hope — Smudge started eating again. But just days later, the vomiting returned. Further tests revealed a mass near his stomach. At only eight years old, Smudge was still so young, but despite everything we tried, we couldn’t save him. On top of the heartbreak, I am left with over $4,000 in vet bills that I cannot pay off alone.

I work full-time at a grocery store in Toronto. At this rate, it would take me nearly three years to pay off this debt. But even knowing the cost, I would do it all over again if it meant saving Smudge’s life.

Smudge’s story is just one part of my bigger journey. Over the years, I’ve opened my home to many cats in need — abandoned, left behind, or without anyone to love them. Today, I care for five rescued cats, each with their own story. From taking in a cat belonging to a hospitalized neighbour to adopting two cats after a friend’s son passed away, I’ve always tried to be there for animals who had nowhere else to go.

Now, I need help. This fundraiser will go directly toward paying off Smudge’s vet bills and ensuring I can continue to rescue and care for the animals who depend on me.
