My husband Josiah has been fighting an intense battle with his mental health for most his life, but especially the last 5 years. In May of 2023, he had a mental health crisis that endangered his life, and has been working ceaselessly ever since to learn to manage and co-exist with his PTSD and major depressive disorder.
In the past 12 months, he's weaned off meds, changed medicine regimens, taken leave from work, gone back to work, taken leave again, and gone back again. At this point, he can't seem to recharge his battery at the same rate that it is being drained. He exists in a near-constant freeze state and is, therefore, very easily overwhelmed/dysregulated (a spiral that gets very dark, very fast).
And so, together with his mental health team, we have decided it's time to try a residential treatment program. In hopes that perhaps by removing himself from the constant life stuff, to-do lists, responsibilities, pressures, etc, he can finally have the space he needs to recalibrate, heal, and start to believe that his presence on this planet is important and valued.
After much research, we have found the place that our guts say is 'the one.' The bad news? Our insurance only covers a small portion of the cost. The treatment will be a 35-day all-inclusive stay and costs $30,000. Of which, we will need to cover $20,000.
And so here we are. Asking for help, because his life ultimately depends on it.
