Help Josiah Breathe Again
Josiah is sweet boy who is kind and is always concerned about how others are doing. He is a smart, curious and loving 8 year old with high emotional intelligence. At the end of October, 2025 Josiah contracted pneumonia. Despite ongoing treatment and ICU stays, his condition worsened and in January, 2026 he received the devastating primary diagnosis of Bronchiolitis Obliterans which is a rare, irreversible, chronic obstructive lung disease.
Josiah has shown incredible bravery as his condition continues to worsen and his life changes in so many profound ways. He continues to smile and crack jokes with his care team, even in the middle of treatments and constant poking and prodding. He somehow finds joy even when his tiny body is working harder than any child’s ever should, just to take a breath.
But now, Josiah needs help that love alone can’t give him.
Josiah’s lungs can no longer sustain his tiny body. He now relies on 30 liters of high‑flow oxygen around the clock, and even the simplest things like laughing too hard, walking a few steps, or sitting up too quickly, leaves him breathless. At this level of oxygen requirement, he cannot function outside of a medical setting or ICU. His medical team has confirmed what no parent ever wants to hear: at 8 years old Josiah needs a double lung transplant to survive.
Josiah was last admitted to the ICU on January 20, 2026 and on February 14, he was transported by medical flight from Scottish Rite Hospital in Georgia to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.
His mother, a single working mom raising two incredible boys, has had to uproot her entire life and relocate to Houston to care for him. Their lives have been forever changed in every possible way.
The ongoing financial burden is immense; from the overwhelming costs of relocating far from home and family support, to daily living expenses, lost wages, and medical bills not covered by insurance. For reference, the transplant cost alone is over a million dollars. The weight of it all is simply unimaginable and they have a very long road ahead.
Who is Josiah?
Josiah is more than a diagnosis. He’s a bright, funny, tender‑hearted child who loves his family, roblox, art, and making people laugh. He now dreams of running without stopping, swimming without tubes, and going to school without worrying about oxygen levels. He dreams of being able to breathe freely; something most of us never think twice about.
A double lung transplant is his chance to grow up. To play. To live.
