My name is Joshua, and I am reaching out during one of the most difficult times in my life. My father, a proud former marine and over-the-road truck driver for the past 30 years, is currently in hospice care at his home in Athens, Texas. He has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer that has spread to his spine and other organs. While I live in Arizona with my family and work as a teacher, my heart is with my father as he faces his final days.

My father’s service inspired me to join the Army, and I am proud to be a veteran myself. The values he instilled in me—dedication, sacrifice, and love for family—are guiding me through this journey. My goal is to travel to Athens to be by his side, say goodbye, and help with his final wishes. I plan to fly to Kansas City, where a close friend will join me for the nine-hour drive to Athens. The funds raised will help cover travel expenses, hotel stays, and any final expense bills that may arise. After my father passes, I will need to rent a trailer to move his belongings and preserve the memories that mean so much to our family. My father's body will be donated to the University of Texas Cancer Center to support cancer research, and I will honor his wish to have his ashes spread in Minnesota, a place he loved most.
