Help Joshua Paul Martin Recover

Dear friends and family,

We want to share an update on Joshua's situation. Joshua was dealing with a severe toothache, and after a visit to the dentist, he was put on an antibiotic with the plan to address the issue after a week. Despite the pain being intense, he was using Tylenol, ibuprofen, and over-the-counter numbing gel to manage it, taking them every hour or two.

After six days, Joshua's pain escalated to severe belly pain, nausea, and significant discoloration. Recognizing the severity, he was rushed to Lake Regional, where they quickly discovered he was in complete liver and kidney failure due to the excessive amounts of Tylenol he had been taking. In an urgent move, he was flown to KU Medical Center, where he has been on a ventilator and receiving liver/kidney dialysis.

The good news is that Josh's numbers are improving daily, and the need for a liver transplant has been ruled out, which is a tremendous relief given how extreme his condition was. Currently, the focus is on his recovery, with hopes that he'll wake up soon, enabling the transition from full-time to as-needed dialysis.

Throughout this ordeal, we've witnessed miracles and believe that Josh has more to do on this side of Heaven. While the long-term care plan is uncertain, there's a strong sense of hope. However, during this challenging time, we are aware of the potential financial strain on Joshua.

As a community, we want to support him in every way possible. It would be a tremendous blessing for Joshua not to worry about his monthly expenses while he focuses on regaining strength.

We also feel compelled to share this experience with the world, shedding light on the alarming reality that the number one reason for liver transplants in our country is Tylenol overdose. It's a crucial lesson we hope can help prevent such situations for others.
