My son Joshua has been diagnosed with a genetic eye condition called Keratoconus. This disease causes progressive vision loss and, if left untreated, can lead to blindness. Joshua has already lost more than 50% of his vision, which has been devastating for him and our family. He needs a cross linking procedure to stop the progression of the disease, and afterward, he will require special Sclera lenses to protect his cornea. While his left eye can be treated locally at the Florida Eye Institute, his right eye is much more severe and requires referral to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. The hope is to prevent him from needing corneal transplants, but the journey is long and challenging.
Unfortunately, the lenses Joshua needs are not covered by our insurance, and the costs for travel and stays in Miami add up quickly. Because of his vision loss, Joshua can no longer work or drive, which is especially hard for a 23-year-old who recently graduated from Culinary School. We are praying for healing and restoration of his sight, and for strength for our family as we navigate this journey.
Your love and support will help make the lenses possible for Joshua after surgery and cover the trips and stays in Miami for his treatment. Thank you for any help given and for keeping us always in your prayers.
