I’ve met many incredible young people over the years in my 25 years with Beyond the Orphanage, but Joshua is truly one of a kind. I have known Josh for over 15 years, and what has always stood out is his unwavering faith and driving determination not only to survive, but to thrive.
From unimaginable hardship being forced onto the streets through no fault of his own living in the slums of Kenya at 9, trying to survive while raising and protecting his younger sister, living a daily life I could not imagine in my worst nightmare Josh never gave up hope or his dream of education and a safe, better future for himself and his sister.
Through sheer determination and some support of local organizations, including Beyond the Orphanage, he got back into school, finished high school, then college, earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and got a job at the Equity Bank in Kenya, building a career, all while fully supporting his sister’s and her education.
Now, Josh has been accepted to Newcastle University in the UK with a 50% scholarship and has saved another 20% to pursue a Master’s in International Development and Education, with the goal of continuing on to a PhD. His mission is clear: to return to Kenya equipped to create opportunities for street children and vulnerable communities.
This is more than Josh’s dream it’s a chance to transform lives. This is something I have not done before, but I believe Josh will make change for generations to come, and I will do what I can to help him. The money raised will go directly to the university which I will transfer. Together, we can invest in a young leader who has already proven the power of perseverance, faith, and education.
