I'm raising money for my 16 year old nephew, Josh, a bright and loving young man who loves to play the violin, write computer coding, and create thoughtful poems.
Josh's struggles with issues related to his autism and mental illness have intensified over this past year, making it no longer safe for him to remain at home. His family did everything they could to try to make it better: ABA therapy, counseling, medication, and stays at residential treatment centers, but he continued to decline.
As an answer to prayer, they found Spark Academy , a therapeutic boarding school that offers hope and ground-breaking resources--specifically to teenagers with autism and mental illness! They were thrilled that Spark had a spot open and he was able to start right away.
While there, Josh will participate in an array of creative and effective therapies, such as wilderness trips, equine therapy, psychiatric care, and a coach who will help him implement coping strategies to thrive in every day life.
The program uses scientifically-backed means of retraining his brain away from fight or flight mode (which is the mode he currently lives in) and into healthy, logical functioning.
By the end of his time there, he hopes to be able to live on his own, have a job, and be able to successfully face life's challenges.
While the Worthington family is being diligent to earn and raise money on their own, there is still a great need. Please consider donating toward the cost of his tuition, which is quite costly (unfortunately, the program is not covered by insurance).
I'm hoping this fundraiser will relieve the enormous financial pressure on this wonderful family. Every little bit counts!
