Joshua Story is a 28-year-old musician from Bay City. Initially diagnosed in 2019 at the age of 23 with a
form of salivary gland cancer, acinic cell carcinoma, Josh had surgery to remove his left parotid gland
where the tumor was located. Although the surgery was considered successful, the cancer has
reoccurred three separate times in different areas on the left side of his head and neck. Radiation
treatments were used to treat the recurrent areas, however a side effect of the repeated radiation,
known as osteoradionecrosis, has deteriorated his jawbone on the left side causing a serious fracture.
This was discovered in March of this year, along with yet another new tumor. In July, Josh will be
undergoing a second major surgery at University of Michigan to remove the newest growth and repair
his broken jaw using a bone graft from his fibula. He will need a week’s stay in the hospital and several
weeks off at home to rest and recover that will require extensive time off work, much of which will be
unpaid because of starting his current job less than a year ago. Josh appreciates any kind of help people
are willing to give, between living expenses for his time off and varieties of medical bills over the years,
any bit is significant. Thank you.
