Help Josh Heal and Keep Hope Alive for Nearly 200 Rescued Animals

If you’ve ever met Josh, you know.
He’s the kind of person who will stop to rescue a turtle, bottle-feed a piglet through the night, or drop everything to help a friend in need. For nearly 25 years, I’ve seen him lead with love, always showing up for people and animals without hesitation.

Before he ever welcomed his first pig, Oliver, animals in need seemed to find him. That’s why we used to call him “Dr. Doolittle.” And when the sanctuary he served on the board of faced a turning point, Josh didn’t blink. He and Evan left behind their life in Charlotte, moved to a small town in South Carolina, sold their business, and took on the care of nearly 200 rescued animals. They didn’t take salaries. They just gave everything they had.

Now, Josh needs us.

Recently, while clearing storm damage, a tree he was moving with the tractor snapped back. It crushed part of his hand, broke bones, slammed into his chest and abdomen, and pinned him to the seat. Josh somehow managed to reverse and free himself.

He was rushed to the ER with a fractured hand, concussion, and extensive trauma to his ribs, cartilage, and internal organs. He’s had multiple X-rays, a CT scan, and an MRI, and had to return to urgent care days later due to swelling and pain.

Josh is unable to work right now. That means no income from teaching yoga or doing hair…his two paying jobs that not only supported him and Evan, but also helped cover expenses for the animals. He has always used his earnings to help feed and care for the very beings he has dedicated his life to saving.

“I get to do what I love and get paid for it when I do hair and teach yoga. And I get to do what I love and don’t get paid for by caring for the animals. It’s not work for me, it’s joy.”

“It’s been really hard not being able to spend time with the babies. They bring me so much joy. It melts my heart to see them happy and thriving, especially knowing the suffering they’ve endured before finding safety here.”

Josh has always given freely…to the community, to animals, and to people who just needed a little kindness. He has organized fundraisers for others, opened the sanctuary to special needs groups, schools, and community organizations, and made sure everyone feels welcome and seen.

Please consider making a donation to help cover Josh’s medical expenses, ease the burden of lost income, and keep the animals safe and cared for while he heals.

Josh has spent his life showing up for others.
Now it’s our chance to show up for him.
