Help Josh Beat Cancer, Lifesaving Liver Transplant

Donation protected
Friends – Family – Internet strangers…

Today I ask for your help. Josh Miller, a dear friend of mine, is fighting for his life. To know Josh is to love Josh. I have often felt like cancer disproportionately attacks the very best people – and with Josh that sentiment couldn’t run any truer.

Josh’s nightmare began on his birthday, August 26th of 2022, when he began suffering from fever, chills, and a heartrate that jumped over 200 beats per minute. After visiting the hospital and finding out he had Sepsis, the doctor’s delivered worse news yet – cancer.

Josh went in for a Colonoscopy in September of 2022, and the doctors found more than 100 polyps in his colon. Because of how quickly it had spread, they immediately performed a Colectomy, removing his colon, in an effort to keep the cancer from spreading.

Thereafter, Josh finally thought he had some good news. All of Josh’s scans came back clear, and it looked as if life might start to find a new level of normal. Unfortunately, this good news was short lived. In February of 2023 Josh started to experience stomach pains, and while doctors initially dismissed them as a side effect from his Colectomy procedure, the pain got so severe Josh went in for additional testing. Upon performing a new CT Scan, doctors found 30 lesions on his liver. Josh’s cancer had spread, aggressively, and an entirely new battle was beginning – Stage IV Metastatic Cancer to the Liver.

Since April, Josh has been on the most powerful form of chemotherapy available – and has responded well. He is down to +/- 10 lesions on his liver, and those remaining have shrunk in size. Sadly, this is a temporary fix; This treatment can only buy him time. According to Josh’s oncologist, his only option for a cancer free future is a Liver Transplant. His doctor is confident he is the ideal candidate.

Regrettably, Josh’s insurance provider is doing the thing insurance provider’s often do --- denying him the procedure. According to them, this procedure is not medically necessary, and the only option they are providing him with is indefinite chemotherapy treatments. Compounding this problem is the fact that time is truly of the essence. A liver transplant will cure Josh entirely only as long as the cancer remains confined to his liver.

Unfortunately, as many of you know – medical treatments are not cheap. Organ transplants are certainly no exception, and the hospital is stating the total cost of the procedure will run $485,000. Josh and his wife have been surviving entirely off her income as he fights, and because of the added expenses, and reduced income, that is a number that is seemingly insurmountable without help.

So I call to you.

Josh met his wife Lauren in 2010, and for the last 13 years, they have been completely inseparable. They married in 2018, and have dreams of establishing a family. They are supposed to have babies. They are supposed to grow old together.
Josh, quite simply, is as good of a man as you will find anywhere. He is humble. He is kind. He is generous. He never has a bad word to say about anyone, and he is a gift to anyone that knows him. Josh has so much life left to live.

All of that considered – I ask for your help. Please – if you have the means – help this man get the treatment he needs to be rid of cancer once and for all. Every single donation, no matter how small, helps. If you do not have the means, please consider sharing this campaign so more individuals find it that may have the means.

Additionally -- maybe this campaign finds someone that has influence at Cigna, the health insurance provider that is currently denying payment for the treatment. Please reach out if you think you may have some sort of leverage with them directly.

To those of you that made it this far, thank you. Thank you for your time. Thank you for your prayers. Thank you for any donation you can offer. Thank you for helping save Josh’s life.
