Monday 16th January was supposed to look very different for Josh & Raquel. Today they should have been welcoming their newborn baby into the world but instead they are navigating the most cruel and unimaginable grief; the loss of their precious baby boy, Sloan Joshua Summers.

In late December Raquel was diagnosed with a liver condition (Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy) which has a high risk of stillbirth and went to the hospital for tests and monitoring. They were told that the baby was tracking as normal and were sent home. Just days before Christmas, as they were putting the final touches on the baby room, Raquel felt something was wrong and headed back to the hospital. It was there that they heard the words no expecting parents ever want to hear "We are sorry, there is no heartbeat"

At 35 weeks + 6 days Raquel gave birth to their still born son and spent the following days with their beautiful boy in the hospital. As you can imagine, this precious time they had with Sloan, saying farewell, was both gut wrenching and beautiful. The reality and magnitude of their loss became so cruelly evident when they left the hospital a few days later without their baby in their arms.

Heartbroken, confused and grieving Josh and Raquel are now having conversations no parent should have to have. Making memorial arrangements for their baby was not something they had planned for, emotionally or financially. We are asking for donations to help them pay for a memorial service and a little extra in hope that, in the tiniest of ways, it may help them in this time of emotional recovery.
