Written by Courtney, Kat’s sister:
Josh was in a horrible surfing accident Wednesday, December 10th in Pacifica, CA. He was hit in the head by his board, breaking his skull and occipital bone and gashing his cheek. He has suffered a stroke and cannot currently use his left side.
He is alive right now because of his determination to get back to shore, the kindness of the strangers who pulled him from the water, the skill of emergency personnel and doctors who have been working so hard to help him and the grace of God.
He has had emergency surgery and is in the ICU. There are still many unknowns and there will be a long road of recovery ahead.
His first words when the breathing tube was taken out were "tell them good job", "I love you, Kat" and "I love my keiki" - this man is full of love for all those around him and especially his wife and precious kids. In typical Josh style, when asked during a vitals check after surgery to give the doctors a thumbs up he added a shaka.
All donations will go towards helping Josh navigate a new path forward, Kat as she cares for him and the kids, hospital bills, household bills, food, gas to commute to the hospital in San Francisco, and to bring some Christmas cheer to their four kids.
Thank you for your support! Please keep sending them all your love and prayers!
I will also be creating a Caring Bridge to manage medical updates and a Meal Train as they get a bit more settled - for now things are too up in the air for scheduled meals so giving here or via Doordash gift cards directly to Kat would be most helpful.
