Hi everyone, my name is Joseph Merchain. Today I come before you to just share a little bit of myself and explain why I am fundraising.
I am 24 years old and I am a former Foster Youth. I was abandoned at birth by my parents and thrown into the Foster Care system. I grew up not knowing my biological parents and not having the proper nurture and stability that is needed as a child. I was moving foster home to foster home and in some cases foster groups home placements. I went through some serious trauma such as sexual abuse and physical abuse. I had been able make my trails and tribulations become my motivator. I am a current student at Pasadena City College. I have been able to become the first ever president of an all black male college organization called A2MEND. I also have been able to become a former State Representative for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges (SSCCC).
I have been able to have lots of positive things going on in my life right now such as job offers and much more. Being able to share my story to inspire others and bring people closer together through my skills and passion of public speaking. I use my past to inspire others to be active in giving back to their communities and I do lots of volunteering and much more. The only key part in my life that’s missing right now is housing. I am severely at risk of being homeless and your kind donations will truly help me with my housing & food insecurity. I am immensely appreciative for you all. Thank you.
