My name is Joseph, I was recently visiting family in California when my appendix started leaking so I had emergency surgery to remove it. I was unemployed and uninsured at the time it happened so I had no way of paying for it. And since I’m not a resident of California I didn’t qualify for MediCal. I’ve sought several other resources hoping for financial assistance towards this debt but the best I’ve gotten is discounts for paying them immediately. Discounts up to 50% off the original bills. But still it adds up when I pay all of them. I’m now $5k in debt with other bills (about $4k) still unpaid. This is not something I’m completely comfortable doing as I hate being pitied and seen as a charity case but I’m trying to set my pride aside so my family doesn’t have to deal with my financial burden. I’m seeking full time employment but in the meantime I deliver food for doordash to support myself, my wife and my son. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
