Hello, my name is Joseph Nicely.
It's been two years since I was granted primary custody due to extraordinary circumstances involving their mother. Her mental health had deteriorated to the point of being unable to care for our children due to general mental health decline and drug use. The children have settled into their new school, made friends, and hopefully, they feel a sense of belonging. But the threat of losing them again looms over us like a dark cloud. The thought of them being forced to leave their friends, their teachers, and the comfort of their own home is simply devastating.
I've fought tirelessly to provide them with a safe and loving environment. I've stopped working and am living off retirement to be there for them. I've watched them struggle to cope with their mother's illness and their fear of the future. And now, I'm being forced to fight for their right to stay in the only home they've ever known.
The pain of watching them suffer, the helplessness I feel as a parent, the fear of losing them, of being denied the chance to raise them into the wonderful people they deserve to be. But the fear of the unknown hangs heavy in the air. They've been through so much – their mother's illness, the constant upheaval in their lives. Now, they face the terrifying prospect of being torn away from the only stability they've known.
