Joseph Loboe’s life changed dramatically in February 2025 when he became the victim of a hit-and-run accident while studying abroad in Rwanda. He now urgently needs medical evacuation to India to receive a more advanced surgery that cannot be performed in Africa. Joseph's accident shattered his hip and caused additional injuries throughout his body, setting him on a long and challenging road to recovery. Before his accident, Joseph was building his livelihood in Liberia around health and fitness as a personal trainer, inspiring others to pursue healthier lives. His passion for fitness and helping others was at the heart of his dreams for the future.
Over the last year, Joseph has endured multiple surgeries in Rwanda. Unfortunately these surgeries resulted in additional complications and a severe infection. Joseph was then referred to Rwanda’s top hip surgeon and was scheduled for a final hip replacement surgery on January 2, 2026. However, when the surgery began, the surgeon discovered that the previous infection had caused so much damage to Joseph’s pelvis that they could not proceed. Upon waking, Joseph learned that he would need a much more advanced surgery, involving the insertion of a special cage into his hip and pelvis to support an artificial hip socket. Sadly, this cage is not available anywhere in Africa. Joseph’s surgeon has urgently recommended that he be evacuated to a hospital in India, where the surgery can be performed.
Due to the circumstances surrounding the hit-and-run, Joseph was unable to seek legal recourse and has had to pay for all of his care out of pocket. This has placed an immense financial burden on him and his family. In India, Joseph will require detailed clinical investigations such as MRIs and CT scans, followed by a complex procedure called a revision hip arthroplasty with acetabulum cage hybrid hip arthroplasty.
The funds raised will go directly toward Joseph’s evacuation and surgery, including medical bills and travel expenses. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help ease the financial burden and bring Joseph closer to the treatment he urgently needs.
