In August, 2026, I will move to Northern California to attend a highly regarded furniture woodworking school. This world-class program will help me to achieve a higher level of craft and take my skills to the next level. It will be a change in scenery and change in pace — my work will shift focus from building huge credenzas and dressers to smaller pieces that require more specialized skills and traditional techniques.
When I moved to LA, I knew there would be more opportunities to learn skills and get connected to a community of peoole who were already doing what I wanted to do. And that is what happened. There were a couple right-place-right-time moments that led me to getting exactly what I needed right when I needed it: a new friend who hired me for a few odd jobs, who later connected me to the person who hired me in 2022, where I have worked ever since.
Over the years, my skills have grown from making simple cabients in my backyard in Koreatown, to building 6-drawer dressers in just 10 days. I recognize this as a huge achievement. And yet, I know there is always more to learn. I’m terribly excited to learn more at Krenov.
This fundraiser will offer security and stability as I set forth on this new venture. As I will be in studio 6 days a week, there is no time to work while I’m in school. I am raising money to cover moving costs, some new tools, and general cost of living expenses over the next 9 months.
It just started as an idea, that someday I could learn to build furniture. What I have now also built is a true passion for the craft, and a desire to keep learning and growing.
Thank you for your support!
