My name is Keren Gomez. I am creating this on behalf of my mother, Josefina G. Farias, and my father, Richard Carrero. On Friday, November 21st, 2025, my dad began suffering from severe fevers and a cough. Thinking it was simply a cold or flu, my mom—his wife—and he decided to try at-home rest to clear up the sickness. By Tuesday, November 25th, 2025, my father was admitted to the hospital due to a strong pneumonia infection. During the beginning of his stay, the medical team found that his kidneys are no longer functioning properly and he is suffering from renal failure. In an attempt to save and extend his life, dialysis began, and in the worst possible turn of events, the procedure caused two strokes on both sides of my father’s brain, further prolonging his stay.
My father is the kindest, most loving, and caring person I’ve ever had the honor to know. My mother is empathetic and strong, but she cannot do this alone. My parents are both elderly, retired individuals who have been hardworking and compassionate throughout their lives. Sadly, this hospital stay has placed a great strain on my family, specifically my parents and their financial situation, as their monthly SSI payments are not sufficient to cover all their living expenses and bills. It is with a heavy heart that I create this GoFundMe in an attempt to secure some form of financial assistance for my parents during this time, as I am a full-time worker and graduate student simultaneously living in another city from my parents and cannot cover all the expenses myself—though I wish I could. I ask from the bottom of my heart for any kind of donation this community may be able to offer in support of my parents' medical and living expenses. Any amount, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated and impactful during my father’s stay at the hospital, as we are no longer able to have an estimated discharge timeline due to the increasing complications of my father’s condition. My sister Destiny and I, alongside our father and mother, thank you for reading this and for your consideration.
EDITED DEC 3, 2025:
my dad has been discharged and is back at home! It is now time for recovery. As he will be house bound for the next few weeks or so, any and all additional donations will go towards my parents’ living and medical expenses, as previously stated. Thank you again for supporting our small family!
