Help Jose Stay Afloat: A Veteran’s Struggle to Rebuild
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Jose Gallegos. I’m 44 years old, a Navy veteran, and currently facing one of the most challenging times in my life.
In July 2024, I was let go my civilian job. Since then, I've been actively seeking employment but have faced numerous obstacles. My unemployment benefits ended in February 2025, and I was unable to extend them because the federal government did not sign the necessary extensions. Since then, I've been driving for Lyft to make ends meet, but it's never enough to cover all my expenses.
My rent in San Diego is $1,825 per month (Now facing Eviction as of July 6,2025), and I'm struggling to keep up with car payments, insurance, utilities, and other bills. As a result, my credit score has plummeted, making it impossible to secure a loan. I've borrowed money from friends and family, but I'm now at a point where I may lose my home and my car within the next few days.
To make matters worse, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year and have not been able to afford the necessary medication. MediCal denied my request.
I'm reaching out to you with the hope that, together, we can prevent this from becoming a complete collapse. I'm aiming to raise $8,000 to:
Catch up on overdue rent and bills
Cover my dog's medical expenses
Secure food and basic necessities until I can find stable employment
I've always been someone who takes pride in providing for myself. Asking for help is not easy, but I'm at a point where I have no other choice. Your support—whether through a donation or by sharing this campaign—would mean the world to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Any assistance you can provide will help me get back on my feet and rebuild my life.
