Jose Mendez and his wife, Lorraine Campos, have always faced life’s challenges with strength and generosity. Lorraine was born with Cerebral Palsy and, after contracting a severe bacterial infection as a young girl in Puerto Rico, she became paralyzed and has relied on a wheelchair ever since. Despite these hardships, Lorraine and Jose have built a loving family with their two sons, always giving what they can to others, even when they have little themselves.
The family lives on a limited fixed income because Lorraine cannot work and Jose cares for her around the clock. Right now, they are struggling without a van that can accommodate Lorraine’s needs. Their current situation makes it extremely difficult for Lorraine to attend vital medical appointments, and it’s taking a toll on Jose’s physical and mental health as he manages all the heavy lifting required to get Lorraine where she needs to go. Without a suitable vehicle, the family is often unable to leave the house together, missing out on important moments and community activities that most of us take for granted.
A van equipped with a wheelchair lift and extra space would be life-changing for the Mendez family. It would allow Lorraine to travel safely and comfortably, help Jose care for his wife without risking his own health, and give their family the freedom to participate in daily life and community events. Your support will help them regain independence, access essential care, and enjoy time together as a family.
