Jose Olmos Jr. is a brave 4-year-old little boy who was diagnosed on 01/09/2026 with DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), a rare, aggressive, and almost universally fatal brain tumor that develops in the brainstem. This devastating diagnosis changed Jose’s life and his family’s life overnight. Doctors initially shared that Jose’s survival rate was only 6–11 month with standard radiation.
As the tumor progressed, Jose lost his ability to walk, talk, and even began losing his eyesight. A once healthy and active little boy suddenly faced challenges no child should ever have to endure. Despite the heartbreak and fear, Jose’s family has continued to fight with faith, hope, and determination. They refuse to give up on him.
Jose underwent 6 weeks of radiation treatment beginning in January 2026. Doctors explained that the radiation might not shrink the tumor and would likely only provide temporary relief from symptoms before the tumor returned aggressively. During treatment, Jose’s family was warned to prepare for severe side effects, including seizures, complete loss of speech, and paralysis.
In February 2026, Jose began daily hydrogen inhalation treatments for about an hour each day after learning more about its potential benefits. Through Water and Salt in West Sacramento, Jose’s family connected with Juan, the owner, and Danny, the manager, who shared information about how hydrogen inhalation may help reach areas beyond the blood-brain barrier where many medications cannot.
Since beginning hydrogen inhalation treatments, Jose has shown incredible progress. At his most recent check-up, doctors shared that his tumor had shrunk by more than 50%. Jose’s family truly believes hydrogen inhalation has played a major role not only in reducing the tumor size, but also in minimizing the harsh side effects from radiation. They have watched Jose’s smile return and have seen him gradually begin acting like a happy 4-year-old little boy again.
Although Jose’s journey is far from over, his family continues to fight for every possible chance at life and healing. They are currently raising funds to purchase a hydrogen inhalation machine for home use so Jose can continue receiving longer and more consistent treatments. Jose is also preparing to begin ONC206, a clinical trial that may help prolong his life.
While hydrogen inhalation has shown promise, it is still under research in the United States, Jose’s family has personally witnessed the positive impact it has had on his life and progress. They believe continued treatment could give Jose the opportunity to keep fighting, continue healing, and someday grow up to do all the amazing things he was destined to do — and hopefully help other children facing similar battles in the future.
Any prayers, donations, or support for Jose and his family during this difficult journey would mean more than words can express. Thank you for helping this little boy continue his fight.
