Help Jose and Mirna with path towards housing
Donation protected
My name is Celeste Gutierrez and I am starting this campaign to benefit my parents Jose Gutierrez and Mirna Nogueda’s journey to home ownership.
Let me start by sharing a brief synopsis of their challenges in recent years. In 2016 my parents lost their home and everything in a house fire. Although insurance covered cost of rebuild my parents were victim of an unscrupulous and dishonest contractor. As the result parents home was never rebuilt and ended up having to use remaining funds to place small RV trailer on property house was once on.
That same year my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer. From 2016 until now the cancer has metastasized to his bones, which leaves him in a daily struggle with deteriorating health. My mom does the best she can but her health isn’t the best either. (My dad is 74 and my mom is 71.)
As a result of constant medical bills, there is little money for anything else and the RV they live in has fallen into a state of disrepair. With no hot water and faulty electricity ( main system is out and only some outlets work which are used to boil water for showers and run the refrigerator.) The RV is not disability friendly for my father such as the small bathroom and bathing area that contribute to the mold in the RV. Summers are unbearably hot despite recently getting window A/C units but the space heaters are not enough to keep the ice off the walls during a freeze. There is also no working stove or oven and are currently using a camp like stove top for their cooking needs. On rainy days there are leaks throughout the ceiling in the bathroom, living room, and kitchen despite our best efforts to seal it.
I began researching housing resources for my parents and came across habitat for humanity. We are grateful to find we had everything needed to qualify for their program with the exception of my dads permanent resident green card ( which is expired and needs to be renewed. The funds obtained from GoFundMe will be utilized to pay for the close to $600 green card renewal fee. Everything else will be prioritized towards electrical and plumbing repairs.
I would like to thank everyone in advance for your support in assisting my parents in having basic necessities and allowing them to live out the golden years of their lives comfortably and safely. Thank you so much.
