03/28 update: Jose had his fourth surgery today! They closed the second incision which is great, but they will monitor the skin. It has a 50/50 chance of healing. If it doesn't then they will have to remove it and proceed with skin grafting. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated! With ICU and four surgeries thus far, expenses are adding up fast!
Update: Jose had his third surgery today! One incision has been closed now, which is great! Second incision is still open and being monitored! Keep up the sharing, we're nearly have way there!!
Hi, my name is Jennifer Jackson and I work with Kendra Gomez. Our co-workers want to do something for Kendra and her husband Jose~They need your help!
Jose Gomez, Kendra's husband, was having pain in his leg last week, so much that he couldn't bear wait on it. They went to CNOS on Tuesday where they examined him and were perplexed by the pain. They did labs and a MRI. They said that it may be a severe infection causing inflammation and pain, but not blood clot or bone break.
Thursday the pain was so unbearable that they called CNOS back and they recommended that they go to the ER. Thursday evening he had a MRI and they met with an infectious disease doctor. The doctor determined that evening that there was a chance that Jose had necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh eating bacteria, which is life threatening. Thursday night, they cut Jose off from food and water anticipating that he would have surgery on Friday morning, which happened.
On Friday, he had a very long surgery where they made two incisions in his leg removing as the dead tissue. He will have a would vac on those spots for several days, leaving them open. On Sunday, he went back into surgery where they cleaned out more dead tissue. At this time, the doctor doesn't think that his leg will need to be amputated, which is a great thing.
There will be more surgeries this week, probably Tuesday or Wednesday where they will continue to take out dead tissue. They're watching his skin color, various markers of infection from the blood work, and ensuring the touch antibiotics aren't too hard on his liver and kidneys. Discharge dates is TBD because they have no idea how long they will have to continue to clean out the dead tissue. Once he's discharged from Sioux City, he will likely go to Omaha for skin grafts followed by physical therapy.
Jose and Kendra are small business owners, Jose is a full-time tatoo artist. When he doesn't work, he doesn't get paid. With multiple surgeries in a short amount of time, an extended hospital stay, skin grafts to come, then physical therapy, the medical expenses will be overwhelming.
We want the Gomez family to focus on getting Jose healthy and be able to be stress free from medical expenses. Let's rally and help these two amazing individuals and their babies, Karson and Elsie.
