Dear friends, family, and kind supporters,
It has now been more than two grueling years since a devastating house fire completely upended our lives. For over 27 months, my family and I have been unable to live in our home. Trying to maintain a normal, stable living situation during this prolonged displacement has been an immense challenge—especially while navigating life with a growing family and a one-year-old baby, along with all the everyday expenses that come with it.
While the fire itself was a tragedy, the ongoing battle to get our home back has turned into an entirely separate nightmare.
Under the rules and structural responsibilities, it is the HOA’s legal obligation to rebuild the property. However, instead of stepping up to do what is right, they have forced us into a corner. Earlier this year (2026), I was forced to officially launch a legal fight to hold them accountable and get my house rebuilt.
Taking this fight to the HOA has already dealt a severe financial blow to our family. Between sustaining a household for over two years while displaced, paying for the house I am bot able to live in and providing for our baby, now I am paying for mounting legal costs, the financial strain is overwhelming. Based on the responses we have received from the HOA’s legal team so far, this battle is going to require even more resources before they finally do what they are legally required to do.
I am humbly reaching out to ask for your support. Any contributions raised will go directly toward funding our ongoing legal fees to fight the HOA, pushing for the complete reconstruction of our home, and helping recover a fraction of the heavy out-of-pocket expenses we have had to shoulder through this entire ordeal.
No family should have to fight this hard just to get back into their home. Your generosity, shares, and words of encouragement mean everything to us as we push through this final stretch to achieve justice and stability.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing by us.
With immense gratitude,
Jose G. Cordero Hervas
