Help Jorge to become a priest

Tax deductible
Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit Jorge Galvis a volunteer at St Dominic Savio Church who wants to become a priest, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

Jorge Galvis arrived at St. Dominic Savio Parish in March 2020. He can with the intention of serving as a volunteer for one year. Plans had been made for him to help with the parish’s youth ministry programs and work especially with Spanish speaking youth adults. A few after his arrival the Covid-19 pandemic changed his plans, our parish way of life and much of what we called “normal” in the world. Churches were closed and most of the parish’s activities ceased. Our only option was to go “on-line”. Jorge became a key part of our ability to offer daily ‘live-steam’ masses and begin new projects like adoration and Lectio Divina on-line or through Zoom. When we could finally celebrate masses outside, Jorge was the one who make the sound possible and transmitted the sound via FM 88.5 to parishioners in their cars.

During all this time Jorge was also reflecting on this life and this plans for the future. And he made the decision that we wanted to become a permanent member of our Salesian Community in California. This would eventually lead to his religious profession and ordination as a priest.  To do this will require that he return to Colombia at the beginning of March and begin the process of obtaining the correct Visa to enable him to return to California as a “religious worker”.

For this reason he needs to return to Colombia and complete the process of an R-1 Visa. This is not a quick process is good time. It could be a longer process now that we in a pandemic.

The funds that we are raising will allow Jorge to live with his family without being a burden to them and to cover the cost of at least some of return travel to California when the Visa is finally granted. If he does not have the funds he needs he will have to find temporary employment while in Columbia which may be difficult because of the pandemic. If he has the means he may also be able to help with mother who is a widow and not in good health.
