Update: I am Zaire, I am from the US but have been living in Mexico with my fiance and dog for 5 years. I create content and have a large community of people who are kindhearted and wanted to help someone who is apart of my community here in Mexico. I am apart of FB group here in Puerto Vallarta and after the events on Sunday, I made a post asking if anyone knew people who were affected by what happened. Luis reached out to me mentioning how an artist (Jorge) who he works alongside with at a local market lost everything. He connected me to the Jorge and this is how I came to know him.

I am in contact with Jorge and we are setting up transfers to the account of his wife (Cristal). We are raising these funds to get Jorge a new truck and allow him to survive while he recuperates his art merchandise

On Sunday, Jorge, a local artist who sells his work at tianguis and markets around the area, was on his way to La Cruz de Huanacaxtle to set up at a Sunday tianguis. Selling his art is how he supports himself. On a good week, he makes between $1,000–$3,000 pesos.

Before he could even arrive, an armed man stopped him, forced him out of the driver’s seat, and took his truck. Jorge was driven to another location, when his truck, along with all of the artwork he was planning to sell, was set on fire as part of the recent narcobloqueos.

In one moment, Jorge lost everything:

• His truck

• His inventory

• His only source of income

Right now, the most urgent need is to make sure Jorge can cover food and basic bills over the next few months while he rebuilds his art inventory from scratch. Long-term, the goal is to help him replace his truck so he can get back to working independently.

We’ve set a goal of 140,000 pesos in hopes of helping him with both immediate survival and long-term recovery.

El domingo, Jorge — un artista local que vende su trabajo en tianguis y mercados de la región — iba camino a La Cruz de Huanacaxtle para instalarse y vender en el tianguis dominical. De eso vive. En una buena semana puede ganar entre $1,000 y $3,000 pesos.

Antes de llegar, un hombre armado lo interceptó, lo obligó a bajarse del asiento del conductor y se llevó su camioneta. Después lo trasladaron a otro lugar y prendieron fuego a su camioneta con toda la mercancía que llevaba para vender, como parte de los narcobloqueos recientes.

En cuestión de minutos, Jorge perdió todo:

• Su camioneta

• Toda su obra

• Su única fuente de ingresos

En este momento, lo más urgente es asegurarnos de que Jorge tenga para comida y pueda cubrir sus gastos básicos durante los próximos meses mientras vuelve a crear toda la obra que perdió.

A largo plazo, la meta es ayudarle a conseguir otra camioneta para que pueda volver a trabajar y salir adelante por su cuenta.

Hemos establecido una meta de $140,000 pesos con la esperanza de poder apoyarlo tanto en lo inmediato como en su recuperación a largo plazo.
