My name is Augustine, and I want to share with you the passing of my dear friend Jorge Luis Laporte. He and I both owned taxi medallions and worked in the forefront of fighting for medallion debt relief for years. We are both proud New York Taxi Workers Alliance members and throughout our journey, we have driven together to Albany, Washington D.C., and Virginia to shine light on the medallion crisis that thousands of families were facing. In midst of all this, he was facing personal and family health conditions as well as family adversities.
Jorge was a beloved father, husband, friend, and colleague. He absolutely cherished his wife, family and friends with all his heart and gave at nothing to make people around him smile. The world has lost an incredible person with a graceful spirit. One would know within seconds being with Jorge, that his smile and positivity brightens up the room. He was a gentle and kind man. A true friend that would give his last penny just to see the people around him happy. His family and friends all adored him.
His perseverance in fighting for the taxi medallion debt relief was accompanied with positivity and encouragement that will be missed amongst his colleagues. He was a fighter that never gave up on a better world. He was truly a man of God, and everyone that was blessed to have to known him, would agree.
- Why did I create this page?
Jorge taught me that it doesn't take a lot to be kind. He lived modestly in the Lower East Side with his wife, Marisole. After speaking with her, I felt it was necessary to help her and her family with the expensive cost of funerals.
- Where your donation will be going towards?
All donations will go towards his funeral expenses in NYC and Puerto Rico. This includes the transportation cost for his body to be transferred to Puerto Rico. Jorge wanted to be laid to rest in Puerto Rico.
I want to thank everyone for reading this page and the Laporte Family owes everyone a debt of gratitude for the help.
