Help Jordynn Get to Grad School
Hi, everyone!
TLDR; I'm going to grad school in London and need a lot of help to get there!
My Story so Far:
I graduated in 2019 with my Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and a double minor in East Asian Studies and Creative Writing. It's always been a goal of mine to go back to school and further my education and this was the year that I finally decided to start working on that. And so, in February, I restarted my search for Master's programs in International Relations, which naturally led me to schools outside the country, especially when no programs in the States immediately piqued my interest.
In March, I narrowed down my focus to one school in the UK, crossed my fingers, and sent in my application. In the months that followed, I experienced a ton of doubt. None of my attempts to study abroad in undergrad worked out, so I didn't really expect that I would actually be able to go—I'd figured that I would eventually find something "close enough" to study in the U.S. and had applied to get over my fear of sending out applications. But, as the months went on, I came to realize just how much I really wanted things to work out with this particular program, as it is the only one of its kind and exactly what I was looking to study out.
And things did work out! On May 24th, I learned that I had not only been accepted to the program, I'd also received an unconditional offer! And while I was incredibly grateful, I was also simultaneously really terrified. This is going to bring about a massive change in my life—it's actually going to be my first time leaving the country! It also means that I have a lot of planning to do in the next 3 months if I'm to get there in time!
The most pressing thing, as expected, is finances. I've looked into scholarships, but have had no such luck finding one that:
1.) Is open for this upcoming year; or
2.) Applies to my program/school.
I'm still on the hunt, though! I've also completed my FAFSA and am waiting to see what type of aid I might be able to receive. In the meantime, I still need to make some moves with this financial feat! And that's what brings me here!
I wouldn't be where I am today without the love, support, and encouragement I've had from so many of you. I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who's had a hand in my success so far or has been there to lend a hand to help me out of tough situations. I'm normally not one to even think about making a fundraiser for myself—I'm actually working on finding a job to support me while I'm there—but I've learned this past year that asking for and accepting help from those around me is not something to be ashamed of.
More Info & FAQ:
What am I studying?
- A Masters of Science in China & Globalisation at King's College London
Cool!... What does that mean?
- Essentially, I'm going to be analyzing trends as they've popped up in China, making assessments about how this has both China's current relationship with the western world, and drawing my own innovative conclusions about how we might move forward and better engage with China in the future! My personal goal is to take what I learn in the program and adapt that knowledge in a way that evolves our digital marketing and online publication industries in the West.
How long is the program?
- It's a year-long program, starting in September 2021!
What is this money going towards?
- The main focus of this fundraiser is helping me get there. (We'll worry about getting back later! ) That means that this will be covering fees for my visa application & healthcare payment, plane ticket, books, stationery, expected living expenses, and, of course, tuition!
Do I expect to raise all of these funds?
- To be honest, I don't—but every little bit helps! Even donating $1 is better than nothing!
