Help Jordyn and Devyn remain in their home

Lea Ann Robinson passed away suddenly this month, leaving behind her cherished teenage daughters, Jordyn and Devyn. Lea Ann took great pride in her girls. From chess matches and poetry readings to cheerleading competitions and cross country running and track meets, she dedicated her life to being there to support her kids. Lea Ann also loved animals, where the antics of her two dogs would always brighten her day as much as watching her girls snuggle with their rabbits and hamsters.

Lea Ann lived for her daughters from the birth of her oldest daughter Jordyn, who spent the first 5 months of her life in the neonatal intensive care unit. Jordyn grew into a warm loving teenager who expected her mother’s parenting for many more years in the family home. Lea Ann was Jordyn’s best friend. Devyn, a soft spoken and kind soul, works hard in school and is a Hermon honor student where she’s very proud of her perfect attendance record.

Lea Ann was diagnosed with cancer January 14th and quickly passed just two days later, leaving two teenage daughters bewildered, heartbroken, and alone as their father passed away in September. Her daughters were immediately thrown into an unknown world rarely considered by children their age. Who will care for them? Will they be able to keep their modest home? How do they pay bills and with what money? Where is their next meal coming from?

Devyn astutely conveyed the impact from the loss of her mother in the following message:

“I cannot believe I’m having to write this right now. 3 weeks ago, if someone had told me my mother would be dead today, not even 4 months after my father passed, I would have told them they were insane. It’s crazy how fast things go from ‘your mom will be in the hospital for 3 days’ to ‘your mom has cancer and all her organs are failing, she’ll be gone today.’ My mother meant everything to me. She is the strongest person I have ever known. She raised my sister and me basically on her own. Providing us with food and shelter and making us happy. She raised my sister and me to be strong just like she was. So much has been running through my head. My mother won’t see me graduate or get my first job. My mom won’t be there when every other kid is with their parents at the senior sports recognition. I’m now an orphan. What will Thanksgiving and Christmas be like? I’ll never see my mother again. There are so many things going on in my head as I’m suddenly being pushed into adulthood. So many things that my sister and I have to sort out. I just wish I could hug my mom and ask for her advice. I wish I could apologize to her for all the times I was irresponsible or didn’t spend time with her. But I know that she would be proud of the daughter she raised and would want me to live life as if she were right here by my side. I loved my mom more than words can describe, and the thought of her not being with me when I become an adult, graduate, get my first job, get married, have children, it all just hurts. But for the sake of my mom, and her strength throughout her entire lifetime, here’s to Lea Ann Robinson, the best mom I could have asked for.”

Members of the Hermon and Carmel community have stepped up to provide immediate assistance with food, heating fuel, plowing, and some emergency repairs. Jordyn and Devyn wish no more than to be able to remain in their home with their dog “Shadow”, rabbits, and hamsters.

This is a heartfelt call for your help. Their mobile home needs extensive repairs and upgrades…the roof leaks, the windows are not designed for Maine winters, the underside of the mobile home is not insulated well, (causing the pipes to freeze with every cold snap), the home is heated with an old kerosene boiler…the list goes on.

Any donation that you can make would be greatly appreciated.

Bless you!
