Help Jordan Heal After Roadside Tragedy

Posting this in hopes of helping Jordan with the immediate expenses invloved with this crazy accident. Obviously he will be recovering for a while and who knows how or when any other financial relief will come. He's a hard working, good guy, just got promoted and ended up in thay trucks path today.

Multiple breaks /shattered wrist, multiple lacerations on his face and forearm and lots of road rash all over.

MESA, Ariz. — A man sustained severe injuries Wednesday morning after a concrete truck lost control and plowed toward a group of workers conducting cleanup work along a highway in the East Valley.

At about 8 a.m. on the US 60 near Val Vista Road in Mesa, employees of Desert Veterans were clearing debris from the highway when a large truck struck one of the employees.

He looked back and started running and then just felt like he got hit in the back," said Desert Dogs Manager Noah Rivera. "He's laying there and he's thinking he's going to die."

According to DPS, the cement truck had swerved and went off the roadway to avoid hitting a trailer that had overturned on the highway.

Desert Veterans identified the injured worker as Jordan Curtis, who was taken to a local trauma center to be treated for multiple broken bones and lacerations. The company said "he is lucky to be alive."

Owner and CEO Anthony Calderon said Curtis had recently been promoted to driver and was a dedicated employee.

"He's on time, he wants to be here, so he was excited for this position," Calderon said. "So for this to happen to him so quickly, or at any time, it's just very sad."

Desert Veterans contracts with the Arizona Department of Transportation to perform highway work. The company said Wednesday's incident shines a light on the dangers that roadside crews routinely face.

“Watch out for the people that are working on the side of the road, because those people have families, have kids, have brothers and sisters, and they want to go home at night to them,” Calderon said.

The driver of the cement truck was issued a citation for failing to control his vehicle to avoid a collision, according to DPS.
