My situation has become urgent. After 20 years of crippling pain, a full collapse of my lower lumbar spine, and a hospital stay where I was unable to walk or care for myself, I finally have a surgery date: December 2nd. This procedure is my only path back to mobility, stability, and the ability to provide for my household. The Virginia Spine Institute requires 100% of the surgical costs to be paid in full one day prior to surgery, and while I’m doing everything I can, I cannot meet this financial requirement alone. I’m currently on Short Term Disability, which only provides 60% of my normal pay, making it nearly impossible to cover living expenses along with the cost of surgery. Despite being enrolled in VA healthcare and having private insurance, both have completely denied coverage for the procedure I desperately need: two artificial disc replacements. This is a devastating failure of our medical system. Neither the VA nor insurers will pay anything toward this surgery—even though it is widely proven to offer better outcomes than traditional fusion, which is covered. As a result, veterans and everyday patients like me are forced to pay tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket just to have a chance at walking and functioning normally again. Combined with income loss and mounting medical bills, this situation has become overwhelming. I’m asking for help raising funds to pay for the surgery, related medical expenses, and critical recovery needs. Without this support, my operation on December 2nd cannot move forward. Every donation—no matter how small—brings me one step closer to getting my life back and maintaining stability for my family during this difficult time. If anyone has questions about my condition or treatment plan, the Virginia Spine Institute can verify the urgency and severity of my case. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can offer during the most challenging moment of my life.
