My name is JoNeisha, and I am the guardian and full-time caregiver for my aunt, Lisa (Vette), who is 57 years old. Vette was born with brain damage, which caused her to have developmental delays and ataxic cerebral palsy. She has always required 24-hour care, and now that she’s up in age, she requires a wheelchair to get around safely due to not having the best balance. To prevent falls or any other injury, we utilize the wheelchair for outings. After my grandmother passed away in October 2025, I became Vette’s primary caregiver. It’s been a challenging journey, but I am committed to honoring my grandmother’s wishes and providing the best care possible for my aunt.
One of the biggest challenges we face is transportation. Right now, I have a small SUV, and it is a real struggle to get Vette in and out of the vehicle. I am not the biggest or the strongest, and I often need one or two extra people just to help with loading and unloading her and the wheelchair. This makes it difficult for us to get to appointments, her day program, church, and other important places. A new wheelchair accessible minivan with a ramp would make a world of difference. It would allow me to transport Vette safely and comfortably on my own, without putting extra strain on my body or needing additional help.
Having this van would provide us with more security, comfort, and independence. It would mean so much to me to have your support—whether through a donation or by sharing our story. Your kindness will help me continue to care for Vette and honor my grandmother’s legacy. Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any support you feel led to give.
