Help Jonathon with his Kidney Transplant Journey

Donation protected
As told by Jons family, his mom Jacqui, and 2 sisters, Jennifer and Jordan. After much debate and thought, we have decided to start a GoFundMe on behalf of my son and Jennifer and Jordans brother Jonathon, who is facing an incredibly challenging journey with Kidney Failure. He needs a kidney transplant asap and the only way this can happen is having the transplant abroad. This is why we are started a GoFundMe.

10 years ago, Jon decided to move to Cambodia, the people, traditions and of course weather made it the perfect place for him to call home. He settled in and began teaching English to young elementary children.

After a flight to Canada in 2023 Jon experienced some differences with his body and after doctors' visits it was assumed it was from the long flight and eating a salty meal before the flight , however, the doctor requested he have a biopsy on his kidneys before he went back to Cambodia, the biopsy was performed, however, he did not get the results before he went back to Cambodia. There were no answers for him or his family when they called requesting the results. We all assumed if there was anything of significance, the doctor would send his results to him via email.

In 2024 he returned to Canada for a visit, after the flight he was experiencing severe headaches, and some swelling, he finally decided to go to emergency to see what was causing the extreme headache. After an examination Jon was admitted to the hospital, and after running many tests was diagnosed with complete renal failure. He had emergency surgery to place a hemodialysis catheter in his chest to prepare him for dialysis, he now has dialysis 3 times a week for 5-6 hours each session since October 2024.

We learned the only way for him to be free of dialysis is to have a kidney transplant. Unfortunately, family members are not a donor match.

Jon's wait has gone from 1 year to 2-7 years here in Canada.

Jonathon is a A- blood type and is looking for a donor.

Jonathon had come to Canada for a visit which has turned into a long-term stay, his girlfriend, job, students and dogs are awaiting his return.

Jon has been trying to work to make money here in Canada, however his health will not permit it* He has been weighed down with medications (he is taking 6 blood pressure pills daily) plus a plethora of other meds. His strict diet and meal planning has been challenging when you have a sodium, phosphorus, phosphate, potassium free, and other dietary restrictions, it is hard to adjust. Jon has lost about 50 lbs.

The importance of seeking a kidney transplant abroad for Jonathon cannot be overstated, especially given the lengthy wait times for kidney transplants in Canada. Here’s why pursuing this option is crucial:

Significantly Shorter Wait Times: In Canada, the wait time for a kidney transplant can range from 2 to 7 years due to the limited number of available donor organs and the high demand. This long wait poses serious risks for Jonathon’s health, as he is currently relying on dialysis three times a week Dialysis is not a cure; A kidney transplant is needed for long-term health and quality of life. By seeking a transplant abroad, Jonathon can access countries with much shorter wait times for kidney transplants, potentially saving years of waiting and ensuring he receives the life-saving transplant much sooner.

Transplant abroad: Your support will enable Jonathon to explore kidney transplant options in countries with faster waitlists, ensuring he doesn’t have to wait years for life-saving treatment.

Travel and medical expenses: These funds will cover Jonathon’s travel costs, medical testing, and the expenses for a caregiver to accompany him and ensure his health and safety throughout the process.

Caregiver and out-of-pocket costs: He will also use your donations to cover any additional medical costs, including medications, accommodation, and unforeseen expenses that may arise during the transplant process.

In summary, going abroad for a kidney transplant is Jonathon’s best option to shorten his wait for a transplant, improve his health, and regain his life. It would not only extend his life but also restore his ability to get back to teaching the children his girlfriend, and back to the dogs that are truly the one of the loves of his life.

This option gives him hope for a future, free from the constant reliance on dialysis and the uncertainty that comes with waiting for an organ donor in Canada.

We certainly understand times are hard for everyone now, and this has been a very difficult decision to go this route, to ask for help is a humbling experience.
If you can please support Jonathon's journey and share...
