My name is Jonathan, and I’ve been working hard as a temporary forklift operator for the past year, hoping to be hired on permanently. Unfortunately, my job has been laying us off on holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Year’s, which has made my paychecks much smaller than usual. On top of that, I’ve been sending money to my mother in Georgia, who is struggling with dementia and has no one else to help her. I live in New Orleans, and it’s been tough trying to support her from afar while also taking care of my own family.

At home, I’m doing my best to provide for my girlfriend, who is dealing with seizures and can’t work right now, and our newborn daughter who just turned one. With only my income, we’ve fallen behind on bills, and now our rent is due. I’m worried about keeping a roof over our heads, especially with a little one to care for. We don’t have anywhere else to go, and I’m doing everything I can to keep my family safe and together.
